Fly Fishing Charter FAQ

  • No experience is required. Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced angler, we tailor each trip to your skill level. We provide instruction on casting, presentation, and redfish-specific techniques

  • Our primary target is redfish (red drum), one of Louisiana’s most exciting inshore gamefish. Depending on conditions, we may also encounter black drum, sheepshead, or speckled trout.

  • Redfish can be caught year-round in Louisiana’s marshes.

    • Fall offers large schools and aggressive fish.

    • Spring provides great sight-fishing opportunities.

    • Winter can produce the clearest water so fish are easiest to see.

    • Summer brings active early-morning action.

    Each season offers unique advantages.

  • Trips typically launch from southeastern Louisiana marsh areas near the New Orleans region. Specifically we normally launch from the Hopedale Marina. This is one of the closest marinas to downtown New Orleans. If you are on the west side we can fish you out of Venice, Buras, or Port Sulfur. You will receive exact meeting details after booking.

  • Most charters are:

    • Half-Day (4–5 hours)

    • Full-Day (7-8 hours)

Full-day trips are highly recommended as they allow more time to explore remote marsh ponds and tidal flats.

  • We provide:

    • Premium fly rods and reels

    • Quality fly lines

    • Custom-tied redfish flies

    • All terminal tackle

You are welcome to bring your own gear if preferred (8–10 weight rods are ideal).

  • We recommend:

    • Polarized sunglasses

    • Hat and sun protection

    • Non-marking deck shoes

    • Weather-appropriate clothing (Rain jacket regardless of weather conditions)

    • Lunch - water is provided

    • Valid Louisiana fishing license

  • Yes for the most part. We primarily practice catch and release to protect Louisiana’s redfish fishery. If regulations allow and you’d like to keep a legal fish, we can discuss options. If clients want to keep fish we usually try and steer them in the direction of sheepshead as they are a much better eating fish.

  • Safety is our top priority. If weather conditions are deemed unsafe, your trip will be rescheduled or refunded in accordance with our cancellation policy.

We strongly recommend that clients allow for flexibility by arriving a day early and/or departing a day later than their scheduled fishing dates. For example, if you book fishing trips for Tuesday through Thursday but plan to arrive on Sunday and depart on Saturday, we can select the three most favorable days during your stay. Should weather conditions be unfavorable on Tuesday, we may adjust your schedule to fish on Monday or Friday instead, ensuring the best possible experience on the water.

  • For the best fly fishing experience, most trips are limited to 1–2 anglers. This ensures better casting space and more personal instruction.

  • Peak seasons (especially fall/winter ) fill quickly. We recommend booking several months in advance to secure preferred dates. Fishing has been exceptionally good December, January, February and this is also when fishing pressure decreases so we highly recommend these 3 months to book.

  • Absolutely. With proper guidance from Andy or Sarah and Louisiana’s shallow-water marsh environment, even first-time fly anglers regularly hook redfish.

  • Louisiana offers:

    • Largest and most redfish relative to anywhere else in the world

    • Vast shallow marshes

    • Year-round redfish populations

    • Sight-fishing in clear water

    • Minimal boat traffic compared to other destinations

It is the best places in the U.S. to sight-cast to redfish on fly.
